More small vaccination centres will be opened in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — More small vaccination centres (PPVs) will be opened in Selangor to make it easier for the people to receive their Covid-19 vaccine jabs.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the decision was made because 25 per cent of the individuals who missed their appointments were due to the implementation of the current movement control order (MCO).

“Selection of the mega PPV’s location was made without looking at the locality density, it resulted in a disappointing response to the vaccination programme as people do not have easy access (to come).

“So after budget discussions, Selangor will open more small PPVs. The people do not have to travel far to get their vaccine jabs,” she said during Studio Birumuda’s virtual forum titled “PH Report Card: Fighting Covid-19’ which was aired live on Facebook on Thursday.

She also expressed disappointment over Selangor’s low vaccination rate, as of Tuesday, only 11.2 per cent of the state population have received the first dose, while 3.6 per cent had completed two doses.

“This is very disappointing. Imagine what we are facing as the most densely populated state and a major contributor to the country’s economy,” she said.

On June 8, Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj had voiced his hope that the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) would speed up and increase the number of vaccine doses for the state’s residents.
