NSC, RoS order PKR virtual national congress postponed

SHAH ALAM, June 5 — The fully online Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s 15th National Congress scheduled to end tomorrow has been postponed.

The organising secretary-general cum congress director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the postponement was following an order letter from the National Security Council (NSC) and an oral notification from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) yesterday.

He said the directive was contrary to the NSC letter dated May 27 which stated that there was no obstacle if the event was conducted online.

Despite objections, he said PKR Central Leadership Council had decided to postpone the congress to a date to be announced later.

“Details of this decision will be announced by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a Special Mandate tomorrow (June 6) via the party’s Facebook page at 11am,” he said.

The virtual congress was scheduled to take place for three days starting yesterday following the enforcement of the full movement control order (FMCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The 15th annual congress began with the Women’s Congress yesterday, which includes a speech by party advisor Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail followed by a policy speech by Women chief Fuziah Salleh.

Today, the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Congress began with a policy speech by its chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
