Second phase of Selangor’s mass Covid-19 screening expected to begin next week

HULU SELANGOR, June 8 — The second phase of the free Covid-19 community screening in Selangor is expected to begin either next week or at the end of the month, targeting areas that have recorded over 5 per cent of suspected Covid-19 positive cases.

The Selangor Covid-19 Special Task Force Operation (STFO) said several state constituencies have been identified but further detailed discussion will be held to ensure the targetted goals of the programme are achieved.

“The concept (for the second phase) will be different as we want to identify the source of the infection. From there, we will also look into whether the percentage of cases have reduced or remained the same (5 per cent).

“If it is still the same, then we will have the third phase of screening targeting specific housing areas or residential buildings. We may not be knocking door-to-door and will target a specific area, but it is still under discussion,” said its director Dr Muhammad Farhan Rusli when met today.

To date, eight state constituencies have recorded suspected positive cases of Covid-15 above 5 per cent, namely Kajang at 8.08 per cent, followed by Hulu Kelang (8.06 per cent), Bukit Antarabangsa (7.58 per cent), Gombak Setia (8.24 per cent), Taman Templer (7.99 per cent), Seri Setia (6.99 per cent), Sungai Tua (5.63 per cent) and Taman Medan (5.29).

From May 8 until June 10, the Selangor government has carried out mass screening operation in its 56 state constituencies, targeting 100,000 individuals to be tested.
