Selangor only received 615,210 Covid-19 vaccine doses, capable of vaccinating more people

SHAH ALAM, June 3 — The Selangor government denied the state has received 2.9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses as reported in a story published today on the CodeBlue website (codeblue.galencentre.org).

State Public Health, Unity, Women Empowerment and Family Committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the article titled ‘Selangor Received 2.9 Million Covid19 Vaccine Doses: Mosti’, has sourced its data from the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti).

“I find much confusion arising from the data sourced from Mosti through the article.

“First, the stated data is not in line with statistics on the delivery and receipt of Covid-19 vaccines in Selangor.

“Secondly, some states had administered more vaccines than they received. This situation shows that the data produced is inaccurate and highly misleading,” she said in a statement issued today.

She there urged the implementation of the vaccination programme to be carried out in a more transparent manner by dispensing information using data that are more accurate and updated.

Dr Siti Mariah said as of June 1, the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) has received 615,210 coronavirus vaccine doses: 434,070 (Pfizer-BioNTech), 146,440 (Sinovac), and 34,700 (AstraZeneca).

She added that according to statistics from the Selangor State Operation Room (Bilik Gerakan Negeri Selangor), a total of 425,970 doses have been administered, comprising 233,874 doses in the first phase and 192,096 doses in the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).

“I have referred this issue to JKNS and JKNS said that as of now, the amount of vaccines delivered to Selangor is insufficient.

“Therefore, the issue of Selangor receiving a supply of 2.9 million vaccine doses does not arise and it is impossible for Selangor to have more than 2.5 million doses in storage,” she said.

Dr Siti Mariah said as the country’s most developed state, Selangor has the capabilities to vaccinate more people than its current capacity.

“Selangor has the capacity to administer higher daily vaccine injections than the current rate.

“However, we are unable to mobilise PPV (vaccination centre) to the maximum level because Selangor has only received the number of vaccines as stated,” she said.

The CodeBlue article claimed that the Federal government had delivered about 2.9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses to Selangor as of May 30, the highest in the country, according to data from Mosti.

It also wrote that Selangor only administered 398,029 vaccine doses by May 30, which means that a whopping 2,511,641 of the 2,909,670 doses delivered from the Federal government to the country’s most developed state had yet to be injected into arms.

The article also questioned why Selangor has been unable to ramp up its Covid-19 vaccination rate, with some 2.48 million vaccine doses presumably sitting in fridges as of June 1, and claimed the state has administered a total of 429,011 doses as of June 1, comprising 285,214 first doses and 143,797 second doses.
