Selangor to provide 500,000 free vaccine doses for B40, elderly groups

SHAH ALAM, June 30 — The Selangor government will provide 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for free targeting the senior citizens and B40 (low income) groups.

Its Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) Community initiative will benefit 250,000 in the state who have yet to be vaccinated.

In a special address broadcast live on Facebook today, Amirudin said the state administration has aimed up to 181,000 doses to be administered to the recipients under the initiative by the end of July.

“Among the targetted recipients include recipients of the existing Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat (IPR) such as Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE), Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (KISS) and Skim Peduli Sihat, as well as other categories which will be determined later on,” he said.

According to him, a total of 3,979,716 or 83.42 per cent of the state population have signed up for their shots.

“However, we have to admit that the number of people who are inoculated in the state is still relatively low. As of June 28, only 851,118 individuals have been vaccinated and 270,221 have completed two doses of vaccine.

“The low vaccine supply does not only happen in Selangor and most countries in Southeast Asia and Africa are facing the same problem.

“This has prompted the state government to launch the Selvax initiative,” said Amirudin, adding that the programme is part of the state government’s efforts to complement and expedite the vaccination process by identifying the target groups under Selvax Community and Selvax Industry.
