Bandar Utama to install 15 CCTV cameras to solve illegal dumping problem

By Zareef Muzammil

PETALING JAYA, July 1 — A total of RM50,000 has been allocated for the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at 15 locations identified as illegal dumping hotspots in Bandar Utama.

Its state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the funding came from the Taman Selamat Untuk Semua (TaSS) grant will be used to prevent the irresponsible act by certain parties who illegally dump rubbish in housing estates.

“This initiative is in line with our aim to ensure the safety and comfort of the community at all times.

“Among the issues are dumping of rubbish by lorry drives who goes through the housing estates, as well as the attitudes of some people in the community who dump rubbish at the illegal site,” said after visiting the CCTV camera installed at SS20 here today.

Aside from the 15 CCTV cameras which will be installed in stages, Jamaliah had given her own personal donation for the installation of the CCTV camera at SS20 on May 31.

Elaborating further, she said her team has also identified 50 locations to install signages to warn the people against illegal dumping.

“We hope the spirit of ‘Kita jaga kita’ (we take care of our own) would not only be practised during the movement control order (MCO) to fight Covid-19 but will continue to be practised by the community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the people in the local area,” she said.
