Close to 44,000 individuals administered Covid-19 vaccine via Selvax

BANGI, July 11 — Almost 44,000 individuals have received the Covid-19 vaccine under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) as of Thursday involving both the industrial and community groups, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said out of the total, over 32,000 individuals were signed up under the Selvax Industry initiative while the remaining 11,000 were from Selvax Community.

He said the slow progress of the administration of the vaccines for the community group is due to the ratio that has been set under the programme, which is 20 per cent of the 2.5 million doses or 50,000 jabs.

“Selvax Community is delivered according to the state constituencies which targets 1,000 recipients to be inoculated in stages.

“The vaccine delivery cannot be done in a rush as the administration of the second dose is scheduled to begin from July 15,” he said when visiting the vaccination programme at Pangsapuri Sri Ayu in Section 4, Bandar Baru Bangi, here yesterday.

Amirudin said the state government and the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) are in the process of sorting out the data daily to ensure the smooth operation of the vaccine delivery and to avoid errors in the system.

On June 9, Amirudin had announced a total of RM200 million allocation for the state’s vaccination programme under the Kita Selangor package 2.0 to speed up the inoculation process in the state.

Selangor had allocated two million doses of vaccines under the Selvax Industry initiative for the workers in the state, including foreigners, to curb the spread of the coronavirus at the workplace.

As for Selvax Community, some 250,000 Selangor people will benefit from the programme involving 500,000 vaccines doses.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said a total of 118 residents at Pangsapuri Sri Ayu, which has been enforced under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), have tested positive for Covid-19.

He said 2,332 individuals from 392 homes had undergone the screening operations.

“Almost all of the residents here are inclusive of workers from an electronic factory.

“The contact tracing process and second screening have completed before we move to the next stage of vaccinating the residents,” he said.

The EMCO in Pangsapuri Sri Ayu was imposed from June 30 to July 13 after a high infectivity rate was detected in the area with 205 individuals were tested positive for Covid-19 within a month.
