Exco: More than 2,000 students to get subsidised unlimited internet data plan

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, July 17 — A total of 2,600 students from three institutions of higher learning in Selangor will receive an unlimited internet data plan that comes with a monthly subsidy of RM20 for a year.

State executive councillor for youth development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said it will involve 2,000 students from Universiti Selangor (Unisel), 500 from Kolej Universiti Antarabangsa Islam Selangor (Kuis) and the rest to students of Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC).

He said applications for the Selangor Internet Data initiative under the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 can be made starting from July 15 to September 15 via the www.platselangor.com portal and clicking on Inisiatif Bisnes Amal.

“The students are expected to receive the SIM cards starting from October 1. It is hoped that this initiative would benefit them, especially for the purpose of online learning,” he told SelangorKini.

The programme with an allocation of RM17.5 million was announced by the Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on June 9.

The SIM cards are offered to targeted groups for RM35 per month. Users would only be required to pay RM15 monthly for 12 months as the remaining RM20 per month is subsidised by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI.

The initiative aims to benefit 70,000 targeted groups including small traders, students, single mothers, taxi drivers, senior citizens and individuals earning side incomes.
