First dose vaccination rate at 27 pct among adults in Selangor — MB

SHAH ALAM, July 5 — About 27 per cent of individuals aged 18 years old and above in Selangor have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the vaccination rate of those who received both doses of their vaccine shots is at about 8 to 9 per cent.

Amirudin said Selangor comes in third after Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur in administering the first dose of vaccines to more than one million its population.

According to the data released by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), as of yesterday, Sarawak had inoculated 1,197,283 individuals, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,154,186) and Selangor (1,095,958). The number of Selangor recipients that have completed two doses is 348,853.

“We are now close to reaching a 10 per cent vaccination rate among those who have completed their immunisation.

“According to the (national) recovery plan, if we manage to reach 10 per cent, the state can slowly withdraw from the plan in phases,” he said at a press conference broadcast live on Facebook today.

Earlier, Amirudin had visited the first vaccination programme in the state that is held in an area placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), at Mentari Mentari Court in PJS 8, Petaling Jaya.

Amirudin said a total of 1,553 residents at Mentari Court, including foreign workers, were vaccinated today out of the estimated 8,000 residents that are expected to complete the vaccination process by Friday.

He said nearly 9,000 residents in the area, namely 7,200 locals and 1,750 foreigners, are residing at Mentari Court and not the initial estimation of 17,000 people.

“This is a new module (element) during the EMCO that the state has implemented. The programme was carried out to ensure that we could curb the outbreak within the community and avoid the need to impose EMCO again in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin added that as of last week, Selangor had increased the daily figure of vaccines delivered to 53,000.

“With the launch of the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), I believe we can multiply the number to 135,000 vaccines by July as targeted by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin,” he said.
