Home assessment kits are easy to use — Covid-19 patients

By Afix Redzuan

SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Covid-19 patients said the home assessment kits provided by the state government made it easier for them to monitor their health condition during the quarantine period.

Private sector worker, Mohd Faezuan Mohd Izan, 34, monitored the oxygen level in his body three times a day using the oximeter provided in the kit, to ensure the oxygen reading rate is not less than 95 per cent, the normal rate for healthy individuals.

“This kit is easy to use for monitoring daily oxygen levels. It needs to be used three times a day,” said Mohd Faezuan who completed his quarantine on July 29, to Selangorkini.

He was confirmed positive along with his three children aged between six to 11 years old at the free community screening in Gombak on June 20. His wife was confirmed positive earlier at a private health clinic.

The cost of the kit is estimated at RM200 each and it includes N95 face masks, a thermometer, an oximeter, medicine and a saliva test kit.

Housewife Rohani Mohd Jelani, 31, only managed to use the kit for two days with her husband before they were taken to the Integrated Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) at Serdang on June 22.

“We checked (oxygen level) by putting our finger on the oximeter. They (health workers) said only use the oximeter when you have a fever,” said the mother of two who was confirmed positive at the free community screening in Gombak.

Construction worker Jusuf Suleiman, 33, said at first he struggled to use the oximeter until his wife helped and managed to use it two times before he was taken to the PKRC in Serdang.

“I this its (oximeter) usage is easy. Although at first, I struggled but after my wife taught me, I found out it is actually very easy,” said the father of two children.

Aside from him, his wife, their seven-year-old child, his mother-in-law and his wife’s sibling, were also confirmed positive at the free community screening organised by the state government.

The Home Assessment Tool initiative was announced in the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 and was introduced to prevent the rising number of deaths categorised as “brought in dead” (BID).

The Selangor government has allocated RM1.25 million for the home assessment kits that are provided to those who were suspected Covid-19 positive at the free community screening.
