MB: State assembly to reconvene for nine days from Aug 23

SHAH ALAM, July 9 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to reconvene for nine days from August 23, said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the First Meeting of the 14th State Assembly had obtained the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who had agreed to officiate the sitting on August 23.

“The sitting is not a special session but it will follow the usual format involving the Questions and Answers and debate sessions. 

“It will be conducted according to the strict standard operating procedures and will be focusing on the efforts carried out by the state government in tackling the Covid-19 outbreak,” Amirudin said in a statement today.

He said the feedback and suggestions from state representatives will also be shared during the sitting in accordance with the legislative role as a check and balance system to the executive role. 

“The state government appreciates the consent of His Majesty and His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor who is always concerned of the freedom of democratic practice in the state,” the statement read.

The Sultan of Selangor is scheduled to grace the opening ceremony on August 23 and the session will start from August 24 to August 27; August 30; September 1 to September 3; and on September 6.
