Opening date for MRT Putrajaya line phase one postponed to Nov 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has decided to postpone the opening date for MRT Putrajaya Line Phase One scheduled this August to mid-November 2021.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim in a statement today said the new opening date for the launch event would take place during Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan when the country’s economy is expected to be fully open.

He said the Phase One section between Kwasa Damansara and Kampung Batu stations is 99 per cent complete while construction of the MRT Putrajaya Line is progressing well and has passed the 90 per cent overall completion mark.

However, he said, MRT Corp has decided to extend the trial operations in order to ensure that the operator achieves the required level of competency, adding that trial operations which started on April 29, are being carried out on this stretch.

“The original training schedule was impacted by the movement control order 3.0 (MCO 3.0) and the enhanced MCO which is being enforced in most parts of Selangor and selected locations in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
