Selangor e-sports a popular choice, over 140,000 participants recorded

SHAH ALAM, July 26 — The Selangor Xtiv Virtual e-sports challenge has recorded the highest participation with a total of 140,470 people have registered to play during the second edition of the programme.

The e-sports programme, which was introduced in March, includes categories such as PUBG, Mobile Legends Bang Bang and FIFA Pro Club.

State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the recorded participation for other events saw 4,395 participants for Selangor Xtiv Virtual Marathon, martial arts (3,017) and youth busking (2,461).

Apart from that, online chess had recorded 1,710 participants with 713 for rope jumping.

“Other programmes such as the Selangor Xtiv Virtual Ride will be launched once the relaxation of the movement restrictions is announced,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini.

Mohd Khairuddin said that the Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021, which is inclusive of six events, has so far recorded 153,306 participants or 34 per cent out of the total 450,000 targeted participation.

The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 runs from March to December and offers a total prize worth of RM411,680.

Last year, the programme received unexpected support involving 250,631 participation and 18 million views on social media platforms.
