Selangor police to deploy 80 pct of its force for EMCO operation

SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Selangor police will deploy 80 per cent of the 14,000 policemen in the state for the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) operation.

State police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the policemen will be tasked to perform several duties, such as being stationed at more than 120 fixed roadblocks, taking part in surveillance teams as well as mount mobile roadblocks.

“The biggest challenge that we are facing is to control the people’s movement as many of the people are working in Kuala Lumpur but they live in Selangor.

“Hence, stricter document checking will be done at the roadblocks. Those who have an approval letter, are allowed to continue their movements. However, those who did not obtain any approval and failed to show valid documents, will be asked to return.

“If we manage to catch any individuals who have already crossed the border without valid documents, a compound will be issued to them and they also need to make a turn,” he said during Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara virtual talk show titled ‘EMCO in Selangor: What You Need To Know’ that was aired live on Media Selangor’s Facebook page and SelangorTV Youtube channel today.

Arjunaidi also said mobile roadblocks would be set up because road users might flee from the fixed roadblocks.

“By having the mobile roadblocks, we will mobilise it from one area to another and we can check the people’s movement around the area,” he said.

When asked about vaccination appointments during EMCO, Arjunaidi said exemptions will be given to those who need to cross the district for vaccination.

“We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances do happen, for example, two people from the same household need to go for their vaccinations.

“Should that happen, we will have some flexibility as long as they can provide valid appointment dates,” he explained.

Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced EMCO will be imposed in 34 subdistricts in Selangor for 14 days, starting from tomorrow (July 3) to July 16.
