Telcos to improve internet access at vaccination centres nationwide

PUTRAJAYA, July 7 — Telecommunications companies are working closely with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to make the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) a success, including helping with internet connectivity infrastructure at all vaccination centres.

According to CITF, the telecommunications companies are Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Communications Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, TIME dotCom Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

“The telecommunications companies will ensure that the centres are not only equipped with internet access but also to improve network capacity,” CITF said in a statement today.

CITF said the short messaging system (SMS) notification for appointments sent to the public for the Covid-19 immunisation was also the result of the collaboration between CITF and telecommunications companies since April 5.

CITF said the companies also played a role in disseminating information about PICK and encouraged registrations for vaccinations through their platforms such as official websites, social media, apps and customer service centres.

“CITF would like to thank the telecommunications companies for their willingness, initiative and most positive response towards the PICK campaign in achieving its objective of 80 per cent herd immunity and protecting Malaysians,” the statement read.
