PETALING JAYA, Aug 6 — A total of 5,200 residents in Gugusan Semarak, PJU 5, in Kota Damansara here are placed under a 14-days enhanced movement control order (EMCO) beginning today.

Petaling district officer Dato’ Johary Anuar said the EMCO was enforced in the area due to a spike of Covid-19 cases among its non-citizen residents.

“Throughout 2021, 350 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in Gugusan Semarak. Lately, this area showed a significant increase in cases.

“More worrying, there are positive cases among non-citizens (in the area) which was not reported to the Petaling District Health Office (PKD),” he said during a press conference at Gugusan Semarak here last night.

He said similar to previous practice in areas placed under EMCO in Petaling Jaya, residents in Gugusan Semarak will also receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

“PKD Petaling will conduct screening and after we have identified residents who are negative (of Covid-19), we will begin vaccinating them.

“Aside from that, we will also distribute 1,040 dry food baskets to the residents. It is a contribution from the state government through Perangsang Selangor Berhad,” he said.

He said Gugusan Semarak consisted of 13 blocks of five-storey apartments, with 1,040 units housing 5,200 individuals of which 60 per cent are Malaysian citizens and 40 per cent are non-citizen.

On August 4, Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein announced that Gugusan Semarak is part of 13 localities in five states that will be placed under EMCO from August 6 to 19.
