Covid-19: 36 new clusters recorded, 19 linked to workplace

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — A total of 36 new Covid-19 clusters were recorded today with 19 of them linked to workplaces, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said 13 clusters were community clusters, two detention centre clusters and one cluster each linked to high risk and religious groups.

“Johor recorded the highest workplace clusters at eight clusters, followed by Selangor (four) and Kedah (two) while Kelantan, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak and Terengganu each reported one workplace cluster,” he said.

He said Kelantan recorded the highest number of community clusters at eight clusters, Pahang (three), and one each in Selangor and Johor.

Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 212 fatalities due to Covid-19 were reported today and 16 of them died at home.

He said the total number of active cases stood at 227,230 cases today, while 1,095 patients required treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 579 patients needing respiratory assistance.

He added a total of 15,187 recoveries were recorded today, bringing the total tally of recovered cases to 1.041 million.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 17,236 new Covid-19 cases reported today, 372 cases or 2.2 per cent being categories 3, 4 and 5 patients, adding 16,864 of cases (97.8 per cent) were patients from categories 1 and 2.

He said only 4,556 cases or 26.4 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases reported today had a history of Covid-19 immunisation.
