SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The state government has spent a total of RM278.34 million to help those affected with the Covid-19, as of August 16.

State executive councillor for rural development and traditional village Borhan Aman Shah said the amount includes RM41.7 million channelled through the Kita Selangor 1.0 Package and RM236.63 million under the Kita Selangor 2.0 Package.

“Out of 46 programmes outlined under the Kita Selangor Packages, 11 programmes have been completed. All the programmes are focusing on the people’s welfare and the progress of the state.

“The state administration is working hard to help all of the Selangor people in facing the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when answering a question from Sungai Air Tawar state assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail on the status of Covid-19 aids.

Borhan said as of August 16, a total of 871,837 individuals had received benefits from both of the Kita Selangor Packages.

On the suggestion to change the food basket approach to cash assistance, Borhan said the state government would consider it in-depth.

However, he said the cash assistance had certain risks such as losing the cash money and it could be misused to buy non-essential items.
