MB: Over half Covid-19 clusters in Selangor from factories, state takes proactive measures

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — The manufacturing sector has contributed to more than half of the Covid-19 clusters in Selangor, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said according to the data from the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS), 96 clusters, or 54 per cent of the total clusters, are from factories, followed by 22 clusters, or 12 per cent from services sector and nine clusters or 5 per cent from the community.

To address the issue, Amirudin said the Health Ministry through the JKNS had taken a few proactive measures involving medical and non-medical approaches.

“From the medical approach, the department had supplied an additional 3,000 oxygen tanks to the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) 2.0 at the Malaysia Agriculture Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Serdang.

“Apart from that, we have added the critical and non-critical bed capacity at both specialist or non-specialist hospitals so that the number of treatment to patients of Category Three and above would be increased,” said Amirudin on a video posted on his Facebook today.

Amirudin said 403 hospital beds have also been added to the Sungai Buloh Hospital and Ampang Hospital.

“Meanwhile, a field hospital was set up at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang and has been in operation since August 6.”

As for the non-medical approach, Amirudin said there are 27 Covid Assessment Centres (CACs) in Selangor and a Virtual CAC was also set up to cater to the digitalisation of Home Surveillance Order (HSO) cases.

“The state government also has increased the transportation capacity whereby the vehicles under the possession of selected departments, state’s subsidiaries and school vans are now being used to carry and transport the Covid-19 patients,” he added.
