SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Through its subsidiaries Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, and Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), the state government have spent some RM9.13 million for community and social programmes as of July.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said MBI had allocated RM4.15 million for religious programmes, RM2.68 million (education), RM1.05 million (social) and RM834,953.58 for disaster relief.

As for PKNS, he said the corporation had distributed RM1 million to a cardiovascular treatment donation drive under the National Heart Institute (IJN).

“Among the most significant amount spent was a RM1.2 million donation to selected mosques in the states under the ‘Jelajah Ramadan Kita Selangor’ programme and a contribution amounting to RM470,000 to the storm victims at Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi and Labu subdistrict for repair works of damaged rooftops.

“Apart from that, the companies have spent RM212,000 on food aid initiative for vaccination centres (PPVs) and had allocated RM150,000 for retail food vouchers disbursed to affected groups,” he said in response to a question from Gombak Setia state assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham on contributions by the state government subsidiaries, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, today.

He said other expenses include food basket programmes amounting to RM539,100 and tablet donations for online learning and teaching at home and quarantine centres.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said other states subsidiaries are currently exploring the potential of disaster-proof sectors such as solid waste management and recovery, which can keep the environment safe.

He said the move would help the state administration to gain consistent income and at the same time continue to implement its social responsibility programmes.

“Worldwide Holdings Berhad is involved with the solid waste management and recovery which are capable of managing 3,000 solid waste while Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor is holding large stakes in a few top manufacturing companies,” he said.
