Selangor organises youth skills competition, offers RM100,000 in cash prizes

SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 — The Selangor government in collaboration with the State Sports Council (MSN) are organising the 2021 Selangor Youth Skills (SYS) competition to unearth talent and innovative ideas from youths in various sectors.

State executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the five-day online competition will start on September 22 and offers RM100,000 worth of cash prizes.

He said so far they have received 500 entries from all over Malaysia since the registration was opened on August 1.

“This competition is organised to get the participation of youths in Selangor and outside, in order to bring up their talents to a higher level.

“Our focus is on sports technology innovation, but we also open up the space for the participants to showcase their talents in various sectors, especially in sports,” he said.

He said this at the launching of the 2021 SYS in Dewan Jubli Perak,  at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here today.

The theme of the competition is ‘Future Sports Innovation’, and participants will be competing in 10 different skill categories, such as animation creation; hackathon; fashion technology; furniture making; terrarium design; architecture modelling; graphic technology; short film and video making; social media marketing and song composition.

For the short film and video making, architecture modelling, animation creation and hackathon categories which are group competitions, the first prize winner will win a cash prize of RM6,000; second prize (RM4,000), third prize (RM2,000), along with medals and trophies.

While for the song composition, fashion technology, furniture making; graphic technology, social media marketing, terrarium design categories which are individual competition, the first prize winner will win a cash prize of RM5,000; second prize (RM3,000), third prize (RM1,000), along with medals and trophies.
