Selangor Ruler: Aid from state govt help ease Covid-19 burden

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The various financial assistance and initiatives introduced by the Selangor government since March last year has helped ease the burden faced by the people in the state during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj said cooperation between the Federal and state administrations had also assisted the people and ensured the country’s economic and development agenda continues despite the challenges faced following the coronavirus outbreak.

“The Selangor government had announced various stimulus packages for the people who face difficult times.

“I hope the assistance would reach the targeted and affected groups to help reduce their burden and survive the challenges faced,” said His Royal Highness in his royal address during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here, which was also broadcast live on Media Selangor’s Facebook today.

The Selangor Ruler said since March last year, the state administration had tabled and implemented two economic stimulus packages — the Selangor Cares Package 1.0 and 2.0 — with a total allocation of RM400 million.

The state government had also tabled the third economic stimulus package on July 13, 2020, with a total economic value of RM55.85 billion, as part of the state’s middle-term economic recovery plan.

“The recovery plan was introduced to curb the spread of the outbreak and cushion the socio-economic impact from the efforts implemented to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” said His Royal Highness.

The Selangor Ruler said this was then followed by the 2021 Selangor Budget tabled on October 30 last year, with a total allocation of RM2.32 billion with five main strategies.

Following the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) on January 13, Sultan Sharafuddin said the state had revealed the first phase of the Kita Selangor Package on January 20, with total funds of RM75.877 million, which was formulated to help those affected by the MCO.

The second phase of the package was announced on June 9 following the full lockdown imposed in Selangor from June 1, which saw the closure of a number of social and economic sectors.

His Royal Highness added that a total of RM551.56 million was allocated for the Kita Selangor Package 2.0, consisting of 25 initiatives aimed to benefit 1.6 million people in Selangor.
