Selangor to procure more vaccines if needed, says MB

SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — The state government is ready to procure more vaccine doses in the future should there be a need, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

However, the Menteri Besar did not elaborate further on the estimated doses the state plans to procure.

“Should there be a need and interest, we will procure more vaccine doses once the Federal government and related department approve the booster shots,” he said when answering a question from Sungai Panjang state assemblyman Datuk Imran Tamrin during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here, today.

On June 30, the state administration launched the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) to complement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and expedite the vaccination exercise in Selangor.

The effort involving a RM200 million allocation was later acknowledged by the Federal government and included in the PICK framework.

The state government had on August 19 agreed to lend some 500,000 doses, which were procured for the Selvax initiative, to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

The move was initiated to help other states facing low vaccination rates, and the supplies will be returned to Selangor within one or two months.
