Selangor takes proactive measures to address abandoned housing issue

SHAH ALAM, August 27 — The state government has taken proactive measures in addressing the issues of 111 abandoned housing projects involving 15,010 units which have yet to be overtaken by a new contractor or ‘rescue developer’.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the projects are being monitored by the Abandoned Project Recovery Committee under the Selangor Housing and Property Board as well as the local councils.

“The state government acts as a facilitator as part of its effort to help in abandoned housing projects issues even though its purview is limited.

“Among the actions that have been done include initiating negotiations with the buyer, land owner, landlord, original developer, Insolvency Department on a regular basis to come out with the best solution.

“A discussion with all technical departments was also carried out to expedite the recovery project by imposing minimal conditions and minimum additional cost without compromising the safety issue,” she told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, today.

She said this while answering an oral question from Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on the abandoned housing project.

Rodziah said out of 111 problematic projects, 39 of the abandoned housing projects are in Klang with 4,392 units recorded.

“The Petaling district recorded five projects involving 299 housing units, Gombak (11 projects with 3,066 units), Hulu Langat (13 projects with 3,303 units) and Sepang (nine projects with 256 units).

“Meanwhile in Kuala Langat, (20 projects with 752 units), Kuala Selangor (four projects with 140 units), Hulu Selangor nine projects with 2,722 units) and one in Sabak Bernam involving 30 units,” she said.
