Vaccination programme to be a hot topic during Selangor state assembly — Speaker

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — One of the hottest topics to be discussed during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, which will convene tomorrow, will be on the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the state.

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim said some 491 oral and written questions have been submitted and among the most asked issue is related to the state’s immunisation plans.

“Some of the questions asked are on the data of the vaccine recipients in the state — how many have received their first and second doses — how Selangor become the first state to use its own funds to procure Covid-19 vaccines for its people.

“We procured a lot, 2.5 million (doses) in total, and we have used half of the amount and now we will be lending it to other states as well,” said Ng during Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara talk show on the preparations of the state assembly sitting, aired on Friday night.

He said the state representatives are eager to know of the development and processes behind the state’s vaccination plans and whether they would be directly involved or not.

Ng said there is also high interest in the Selangor’s welfare programmes and on the standard operating procedures (SOPs) as well as the enforced movement restrictions in the state.

“They want to know when we will be moving to the next phase (of the National Recovery Plan), why the (Covid-19) death rate is high, when will we move from a red zone to perhaps yellow or green, among others.

“The people of Selangor are urged to follow the state assembly sitting as we are always focusing and debating on issues related to the people,” he said.

On Friday, Ng said the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly tomorrow will be held briefly and in strict compliance with the SOPs.

He said the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, had consented to grace the opening ceremony and His Royal Highness would be accompanied by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

The Selangor state assembly sitting is scheduled to be held from August 23 to September 6.
