Covid-19: 10,959 new cases reported, Selangor dip below 1,000

SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia have dropped further to 10,959 today compared to 13,104 reported yesterday.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a post on his social media accounts, said the latest development brings the cumulative figure for positive cases to 2,209,194.

As for Selangor, the state has seen a significant drop by registering 979 infections today, compared to the 1,558 cases reported yesterday.

This is the first time Selangor reported new cases below 1,000 since May 4 (675 cases).

New cases in Selangor have been dropping since hitting a high of 8,792 on August 6.

Dr Noor Hisham said Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases today with 2,723, followed by Johor (1,226).

The states recording three-digit Covid-19 cases were Kelantan (983), Penang (793), Pahang (739), Perak (713), Terengganu (691), Kedah (660), Melaka (346), Kuala Lumpur (176) and Negeri Sembilan (110).

While Perlis recorded 51 cases, Putrajaya (18), and Labuan with zero cases as of noon today.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the occupancy of intensive care unit (ICU) beds at Covid-19 hospitals throughout the country as at yesterday was at 68 per cent of the 1,543 beds while non-ICU beds were 59 per cent out of the 16,677 beds.
