SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — A total of 201 victims were affected by flash floods incident in Kampung Rantau Panjang, Bestari Jaya; Kampung Parit Mahang, Jeram and Kampung Tanjung Siam, near Kuala Selangor on Saturday.
Following that, three temporary evacuation centres (PPS) were opened in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Rantau Panjang, SK Parit Mahang and SK Pasangan to accommodate the victims from 68 families.
Selangor Menteri Besar’s political secretary, Juwairiya Zulkifli said PPS SK Rantau Panjang was opened on Sunday, while PPS SK Parit Mahang started operating yesterday and PPS SK Pasangan was opened this morning.
“A total of 36 families involving 100 residents in Kampung Tanjung Siam had to be evacuated to PPS SK Pasangan which opened at 10am this morning.
“The incident is believed to be caused by the overflow of river water from Sungai Selangor that entered the houses of nearby residents,” she said when contacted by SelangorKini.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Selangor District Disaster Management Secretariat said a total of 90 victims involving 27 families were placed at PPS SK Rantau Panjang and 11 victims from five families at PPS SK Parit Mahang.
“This incident is due to continuous heavy rain since last Saturday that caused the water to rise up to one metre, forcing some families to be evacuated,” said Leftenan (PA) Maizura Suradi when contacted.
Maizura, who is also the acting Civil Defense Officer of Kuala Selangor district, said their team is also monitoring the situation in Kampung Kuantan as the area was also flooded.
