SHAH ALAM, Sept 2— The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, contributed 100 food baskets to Media Selangor Recreation, Sport and Welfare Club (Kerisemas), today.

Its Corporate Social Responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the donation is part of the company’s effort to help those who are in need and affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Currently, we are not allowed to organise physical activities with the public, hence we are using this approach to reach out to the people.

“The food basket is worth RM70 and it consists of daily necessities including rice, oil, sugar and vermicelli noodles,” he said when met after the handover event at Media Selangor Sdn Bhd (MSSB) office, here.

Meanwhile, Kerisemas chairman Badrul Hisyam Mohamed said the food baskets will be distributed starting from today and it will not only focus on MSSB employees.

“We will also distribute the donation to people from the low-income groups as well as former MSSB employees who are affected by the pandemic.

“This programme is our attempt to reach out to the public and moving forward, we plan to continue the programme even after the pandemic has waned,” he said.

In a related development, Ahmad Azri said MBI has spent a total of RM800,000 for the food baskets programme from January to July this year.

He said the donation programmes for the needy were carried out in collaboration with over 50 non-governmental organisations, resident’s associations, community service centres and local councils.

However, he said it does not include the distribution of 6,000 retail vouchers at 99 Speed Mart and KK Super Mart.

“Each voucher is worth RM50 and it helped the recipient buy their necessities. The distribution process was conducted in two stages and we were assisted by 150 council members from several local authorities,” he said.
