More than 18 mln of Malaysia’s adult population fully vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept 23 —  A total of 18,964,474 individuals or 81 per cent of the adult population in the country have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of yesterday.

Based on the Health Ministry’s data on CovidNOW, 93.3 percent or 21,847,551 individuals of the adult population have received at least one dose of the vaccine until yesterday.

 A total of 321,342 doses of the vaccine were dispensed yesterday, with 30,860 as first dose and 197,994 doses to second dose recipients, bringing the number of doses dispensed under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) to  41,247,271.

PICK was launched on Feb 24 this year to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, a total of 487 deaths due to Covid-19 were reported yesterday (Sept 22), up from 334 deaths reported the previous day, bringing the total death due to Covid-19 in the country to 24,565 people. 

On the 487 deaths reported yesterday, only seven cases were the actual deaths reported for the day, while the rest reported late.

A total of 161 deaths that were reported yesterday were brought in dead (BID) cases.

On the death cases that were reported yesterday,  178  were recorded in Selangor; Sabah (87); Johor (63); Kuala Lumpur (44); Penang (36); Kelantan (26); Perak (18); Kedah (14); five each in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang; Terengganu (three); Perlis (two) and Sarawak (one).
