Roziah Mohd Janor appointed first woman vice-chancellor of UiTM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — Professor Dr Roziah Mohd Janor has been appointed vice-chancellor (VC) of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), making her the first woman to be appointed to the post at the university.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad said she presented the letter of appointment to Roziah today.

“Roziah is able to shoulder the responsibility of making UiTM a mega university and provide ample opportunities for Bumiputeras to improve their living standards through higher education in all fields and continue the excellence of UiTM’s leadership,” said Noraini on her official Facebook page.

Roziah, 58, who is previously UiTM Deputy VC (Academic and International), replaced Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim whose service ended on March 10.

Roziah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York, a Master’s degree in the same field from West Virginia University and a PhD in Statistics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

She is a member of the Malaysian Board of Technologists and has received various awards including the UiTM Staff Excellence Award in 2002, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2017, UiTM Researcher of the Year 2007 and the Bronze Medal for GPP Global Social Mobility Index: Quantifying Actual Development Impact from the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists.
