Selangor to give free self-test kits for families of Covid-19 patients

SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — The state government will be distributing 60,000 saliva-based Covid-19 self-test kits for free to family members of those who had contracted the coronavirus.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the self-test kits would be distributed mainly to the low-income families, aligned with the proposal made by the Health Ministry (MOH) yesterday.

She said the state government hopes that the free self-test kits distribution would add value to the intensified efforts by both the Federal and state governments in battling the virus.

“Previously, we had taken proactive measures by using the FTTIS (find, test, trace, isolate and support) approach, in line with the recommendations made by the World Health Organisation, as part of our efforts to curb the outbreak.

“The objective behind the initiative is to support self-monitoring for those who have been tested positive and undergoing home quarantine,” she said in a statement today.

Dr Siti Mariah had also reminded those who will receive the self-test kits to comply with the procedures outlined in the Covid-19 Self-test Kit Management Manual issued by the (MOH).

“Among the procedures include conducting self-reporting on MySejahtera after receiving the results, be it positive, negative or invalid,” the statement read.

On August 12, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had revealed that the state government planned to provide 60,000 free self-test kits to the people of Selangor.

He said the self-test kits would be channelled to the affected families via community service centres and state legislative assembly coordinating offices in the 56 state constituencies across Selangor.

He said the test kits will be supplied through Selgate (Healthcare) and Selcare to families of those who have tested positive for Covid-19 or who are of high-risk.
