SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — The Selangor state government has expedited the launch of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) for teenagers, so as to vaccinate as many people as possible.

Health state executive councillor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said her role is to synchronise the programme’s implementation, should it involve state agencies including students of religious schools under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais)

“Our assemblymen will also aid in providing transportation to families from less well-off families, since there are some vaccination centres which are located far away, and we do not want any teens to be left behind.

“Although the state government is not directly involved, such as the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) but we will still play a role according to our jurisdiction, so that more people can be vaccinated,” she told SelangorKini.

On September 23, Selangor Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman was reported to have said that up to 399 schools in the state are involved in the teen PICK programme, which began on September 20.

The Health Ministry is targeting and 80 per cent double dose rate for teenagers, before the schooling session opens for next year.

The federal government is targeting at least 60 per cent of teenagers between the ages of 12 to 17 for one vaccination dose by this November.
