Sungai Kandis teens get first vaccine jabs

KLANG, Sept 30 — Over 6,000 teenagers aged 16 and 17 years old in the Sungai Kandis constituency have been inoculated with their first doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

Its state representative Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the number was recorded within six days starting last week, at Sekolah Agama Menengah Tinggi Hisamuddin.

“Approximately 1,000 students were vaccinated every day, with the same amount on the last day they received the first dose,” he said after distributing 1,000 food packs alongside the Selangor Community Health Volunteer (CHV), here, today.

On September 23 State Health Department Director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said 399 schools in Selangor are involved in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) for teenagers.

He added the schools involved include those under the management of the Ministry of Education, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department, and private schools.

On September 20 the Health Ministry (MOH) announced it is targeting to fully vaccinate 80 per cent of teenagers before the academic session starts next year.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said MOH also aims to get 60 per cent of teenagers aged 12 to 17 years old to be inoculated at least once by November.
