SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Tourism Selangor has partnered with ESports Selangor Association (ESport Selangor) to incorporate e-sport activities in the travel industry as an addition to the state’s various tourism segmentations.
Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) virtually on August 30, Tourism Selangor was represented by its general manager Azrul Shah Mohamad and Esport Selangor president Abdul Razak Mohd Yusof.
Azrul Shah said the MoU marked another milestone to Tourism Selangor in penetrating the niche tourism segmentation, which had garnered a huge fan base.
“Selangor has always been advanced in many aspects, and this collaboration is a catalyst towards establishing Selangor as the first ‘State of e-sports’ in the country.
“Since the demand from the e-sports community has been steadily increased over the years, Tourism Selangor is optimistic on the vast potential of e-sports to boost the tourism sector in the state,” he said in a statement recently.
Meanwhile, Abdul Razak said the MoU also marks the association’s first official collaboration to incorporate e-sports into tourism.
“With the establishment of ESports Selangor National Arena in Shah Alam as Southeast Asia’s biggest e-sports hub, it will contribute to the tourism industry in Selangor in terms of future national and international tournaments and events,” he said.
