By Norrasyidah Arshad

GOMBAK, Oct 3 — Gombak Setia becomes the first constituency in the state to launch its Disaster Squad for emergency cases.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said the noble effort should be emulated by other constituencies because disasters are unpredictable.

“With the climate change, sometimes we cannot predict what would happen, for example, the flash flood in Shah Alam last week.

“By having the squad, we can help more parties and at the same time, we can better prepare for any circumstances,” he said after the launching event of the squad’s operation centre.

The centre which is located near Dewan Beringin in Taman Sri Gombak is also equipped with emergency equipment such as chainsaw, generator and chemical substance.

Amirudin said the squad consists of seven members and will act to assist the emergency personnels namely firefighter, Civil Defence Forces and Selayang Municipal Council during emergency.

“The number of members will be increased to include villagers. They will be trained to face real disaster,” he said.
