BANTING, Oct 9 — Hundreds of people celebrated the 2021 Selangor Day of Sports in Bukit Jugra here today under strict standard operating procedures.

The programme organised by the state government was packed with various exciting activities such as the 3km uphill Fun Ride, aerobics and paragliding.

State executive councillor for youth and sport Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the celebration was organised to recognise the challenges faced by the athletes and the public who were unable to play sports due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are aware of the importance to remain active, stay physically and mentally fit as well as live a healthy lifestyle, especially now the country has slowly recovered and is moving towards the endemic phase,” he said.

During the programme, Khairuddin also launched the Fit Mental Run and Scavenger Hunt which will be held virtually on October 30, that offers cash prizes worth RM500 to 10 winners and lucky draws.

He said the programme was organised in conjunction with the Mental Health Month and targeted 1,000 participants.

“The state government is seriously concerned about the mental health impact among youth, especially on those affected by the pandemic. Thus we welcome efforts to raise awareness of this problem,” he said.
