Keep enough water supply, people told

SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — The public are urged to store sufficient amounts of water for their daily use during the scheduled water supply disruption following maintenance work at Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Phase 1 on October 13.

The water supply is expected to be restored in stages starting from 5pm on October 14 and consumers in the 998 affected areas can keep updated with further information at hentitugas.airselangor.com.

The affected regions are Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) informed that the disruption and restoration period will differ according to the distance of the user’s premises and the water pressure in the supply system.

During this period, the water operator will be mobilising 105 water tankers to the affected areas, with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals, dialysis centres and funerals.

It will also provide 18 public water taps from October 14 to 16 for customers in need of water supply during the period.

Four local water filling stations will be made available for them to purchase water supply and to be collected using their own water tankers.

More information on the disruption can be accessed from Air Selangor’s mobile app and its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, or contact the agency at 15300.

The implementation of the upgrading and maintenance works was previously scheduled in 2019 and consequently in 2020, but was postponed due to water pollution incidents that had caused a large-scale unscheduled water supply disruption.

Air Selangor said the scheduled disruption has been approved by the National Water Service Commission (Span).
