SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) distributed free tablets and SIM cards to 57 subdistrict chiefs in Selangor.
The donation was handed over by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari during a programme held at the Selangor State Secretariat building earlier today.
In his speech, Amirudin said the responsibility of a subdistrict chief then and now has differed according to the passage of time.
“Previously, a subdistrict chief’s various roles include ensuring peace in the village and granting approvals, licences and permits to carry out enforcement matters. However, they now need to assist on administration matters and disaster management.
“The chief needs to manage various aspects related to data, information and as well as moving towards digitalisation,” he said.
Amirudin added the use of a tablet only consists of 25 per cent of their job scope, but what is more important is how subdistrict chiefs utilise it for the sake of the people.
“Overall, this is not a huge donation but we have to embark on a bigger opportunity for the digitalisation process among the state government servants, including subdistrict chiefs, as they also have their own workstation and move around their community on a daily basis.
“Let us work together to develop the state and help to ensure that Selangor will recover after the Covid-19 outbreak. Thank you to MBI for realising the subdistrict chief’s hope,” he said.
Also present at the event are the state executive councillor for rural development and traditional village Borhan Aman Shah and MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.
