SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Selangor has approved 348 affordable housing development projects involving 205,584 units for Rumah Selangorku as of September 30, says state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail.
She said of that number, 24,090 units had been completed and the keys handed over to the owners, while 18,825 are being built.
“Overall, through the implementation of the Rumah Selangorku policy, the state government has successfully helped 42,915 individuals who are first-time home buyers and are mostly young couples.
“I was made to understand that they are among the tenants of Rumah Selangorku who have now changed their status from renting to owning their own homes,” she said.
She said this at a ceremony to hand over keys to the buyers of Rumah Selangorku Iris Fasa 1C, Taman Bunga Raya, Serendah, in Hulu Selangor yesterday.
According to her, the Rent-to-Own Smart Scheme (2Stay), which is estimated to be worth RM6.3 billion, contributes to Selangor’s economy.
“We expect the houses that are being built to be completed in stages and buyers can move in from the end of this year until 2023,” she said.
In 2014, the state government launched the Rumah Selangorku policy that focuses on improving aspects of ownership, planning and implementation to benefit developers, policy implementers and homeowners.
Rumah Selangorku homes are sold at a price of between RM42,000 and RM250,000 and are aimed at the low-income group.
