SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — The work to restore the flow of Sungai Kemensah was completed on September 19, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added the repair works on the landslide area near Jalan Kemensah Heights in Hulu Kelang cost RM20,000 in total.

“The state government also wishes to thank the Environment Minister for the approval of RM10 million for the slope stabilisation work plan, and to upgrade the river so as to prevent this incident from recurring,” Amirudin said in a statement yesterday.

He added that he hopes the cooperation between the state and federal governments will resolve the issue of landslides in the area.

The landslide, which occurred on September 17, involved three bungalow units and affected the back of the surrounding townhouses.

Subsequently the Mentri Besar declared the location to be a disaster area, with the three bungalows as being unfit for habitation. This included 24 townhouses, whose occupants have been advised to temporarily relocate.

While on ground to scout the location, Amirudin also provided early help of RM500 each to 27 victim families, to arrange for relocation or to bear the cost of removing items.
