Selangor FC goalkeeper Sikh Izhan to undergo trials with Spanish football club

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — Selangor FC goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman is expected to undergo trials with Spain’s La Liga second division team CF Fuenlabrada on November 10, an opportunity for him to carve a name for himself in Europe.

Sikh Izhan said he will undergo quarantine in Malaysia after his assignment with the national Under-22 (U-22) football squad in the 2022 Under-23 (U-23) Asian Cup Qualifiers in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia which is scheduled for October 25 to 31 before trying his luck in Spain on that date.

“I am not sure if there is a contract or I am going there on loan. I am not sure. I was informed about the trials only,” he said when met recently.

Personally, the 19-year-old said he just want to play in Europe in his effort to improve on his level of performance and be a successful player if given the opportunity to play there one day.

“If given the opportunity, all I can say is that I am 100 per cent ready to play somewhere else. The Malaysian League is definitely competitive but I want the experience and better knowledge playing outside the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sikh Izhan said the competitive rivalry in Mongolia will be the benchmark for players to attract the attention of foreign agents in their effort to build a name on the international football scene in the future.

Born in Seberang Prai in Penang, Sikh Izhan said the stiff competition will continue to exist between him the other goalkeepers named in the last 23 players squad bound for Mongolia for a place in the last 11 for every game in the qualifiers.

However, he said he hoped whoever is given the opportunity to play in Mongolia gives his 100 per cent commitment and best to ensure that the under squad under Brad Maloney books a place in the final rounds next year.

In the qualifiers, Malaysia are drawn in Group J with Laos, Mongolia as the hosts and Thailand, with all the actions to be played at the Mongolian Football Federation Stadium (MFF) in Ulaanbaatar

Malaysia will meet Laos on October 25, Mongolia (October 28) and Thailand (October 31) to book a slot in the final rounds of the B-23 2022 Asia Cup in Uzbekistan in June.
