Two farmers receive notice from Luas for water pollution

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Lembaga Urus Air Selangor has issued two offence notices (NPK) pertaining to water pollution incidents at Jalan Sungai Ingat in Kampung Bandar Banting, here.

According to the agency, the notices were given to a cattle farmer and a sheep farmer who had discharged effluents into, and illegally abstracted water from, Sungai Permatang Pasir.

“After receiving a complaint from the Kuala Langat Veterinary Department (KLVD), we conducted an investigation on September 30 and the farmers were asked to carry out maintenance works in three sewage ponds as well as to heighten the wall between each pond.

“KLVD has also instructed them to use ‘Effective Microbe’ products in the drinking water of their livestock and in their sewage ponds to increase waste decomposition and reduce pollution,” said Luas in a statement today.

The agency also seeks the public’s help to immediately report any suspicious activities which may cause pollution to the state’s water reserves so that swift action can be taken.
