KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — The Selangor International Business Summit 2021 (SIBS 2021) has recorded over 9,800 visitors in just two days since it was launched on Thursday.

Initially, the four-day event hosted by Invest Selangor Berhad (Invest Selangor) targeted around 10,000 visitors throughout its duration.

Its chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris said that based on the crowd’s encouraging response, he is confident the event can exceed the target number of visitors.

“Perhaps we will be able to achieve an additional 5,000 visitors for the remaining two days of the event,” he said when met after a document exchange between supermarket representatives and Invest Selangor at the Selangor International Expo (Food and Beverages) Supermarket Buyers Programme 2021, here today.

Also present was state executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

Hasan added that participating traders and potential buyers are satisfied with this year’s edition of SIBS.

“Potential buyers are looking for the right products to be marketed, either in the domestic or international markets.

“We also implemented various improvements for the event compared to our previous events, even though SIBS 2021 is held on a smaller scale this year due to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

“For next year, I hope we can add more products to be featured, as well as increase the number of participants,” he said.

With the theme ‘Selangor the Gateway to Asean’, the hybrid regional annual summit takes place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from November 18 to 21.

The fifth edition of the state government-backed conference and exhibition themed as ‘Selangor the Gateway to Asean’ brings together global brands and congregating industry players from around the world.

The physical event features about 500 booths and can be accessed virtually via www.selangorbusinesshub.my, which showcases nearly 800 booths.

SIBS 2021 features dedicated expos on four main sectors — food & beverages; medical products and services; research & development and innovation; and industrial parks.
