SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — Out of 10 calls received via the SELamat hotline, four involved domestic violence victims and one child abuse case.
Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) chief executive officer Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki said the child abuse case had been referred to the police for further action. At the same time, the remaining complainants are offered counselling services.
“Domestic violence cases are referred to counsellors as the victims want to save their marriage. The six other calls involve state government agencies, vaccines and hotline operations,” she said.
SELamat was set up to offer crisis support to victims of domestic violence and has been in operation since November 3 via 03-64195027.
The hotline operates 24 hours and is managed by WBS staff and volunteers.
On June 9, Amirudin had announced the RM100,000 allocation for the hotline, which was included in the state’s Kita Selangor Package 2.0.
The financial aid totalling RM551.56 million aimed to benefit 1.6 million people in Selangor, such as low-income groups (B40), students, small entrepreneurs, farmers, and tourism operators.
On August 30, the state government had also initiated the Selangor Mental Health Programme (Sehat) to help those facing mental or emotional distress during the pandemic.
