Company involved in flying canvas incident to face termination if found guilty – KDEBWM

SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will take stern action against any of its sub-contractor companies who are involved in the ‘flying canvas’ incident along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway, which caused an accident on Wednesday.

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said this includes terminating the contract of the company in question, if it is found to have failed in complying with standard operating procedures (SOP)

“KDEBWM views matters related to SOPs seriously, and appreciates the public’s commitment regarding waste management services in Selangor.

“We will continue to ensure the service is in line with the SOPs, so that a similar incident will not be repeated in the future,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ramli thanked the user who reported the incident, which involved a truck owned by KDEBWM and motorcyclist with his passenger.

He added the incident occurred when the ropes tying the tarpaulin sheet to the truck were disconnected, flying off and enveloping the two men on the motorcycle, causing them to lose vision and control, and resulted in the accident.

Ramli said KDEBWM regrets the incident, and in addition to strict action against the offending party, they were also ordered to file a police report at the Sepang police district headquarters by today.

“All medical and vehicular compensation have been carried out, with both motorcyclists currently undergoing treatment.

“We now leave the investigations and any relevant legal actions to the police,” he said.

Footage of the accident obtained from a car dashcam showed the motorcyclist and his passenger, blinded by the covering, nearly ramming into the tyres of an oil tanker. Both managed to narrowly avoid being crushed at the last minute.
