Country’s biggest summit SIBS 2021 is back

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The Selangor International Business Summit 2021 (SIBS 2021) has been recognised by Malaysia’s Book of Records as the biggest event of its kind in Malaysia, says Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

The state executive councillor for industry and trade said SIBS 2021 comprises six main events and three parallel events, combining the best virtual and real-world events in the first-ever hybrid event.

“SIBS has grown by leaps and bounds since it was first held in 2015. The international summit is still the best platform for key business players, investors and decision-makers from various industries to connect, collaborate and create limitless opportunities.

“I am happy to report that this year, SIBS presents the widest reach ever. Besides a total live exhibition space of more than 13,000 sqm, and 500 booths and an anticipated physical crowd of 10,000 trade visitors, we are featuring SIBS digitally and are hopeful to cover as widely as possible,” he said in a speech during the official ceremony of SIBS 2021, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

The event was officiated by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who represented the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Also present during the event, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Invest Selangor chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari.

Teng said that SIBS began as a general trade fair, namely the Selangor International Expo.

“Today it has grown into a multi-event summit held over 4 days. By 2019, while only in its 3rd edition, the summit has welcomed close to 100,000 visitors from over 33 countries.

“This, in turn, has resulted in an accumulated trade value of over RM1.1 billion or about US$268 million,” he added.

The fifth edition of SIBS involves the following events:

  • The 7th Selangor International Expo (Food and Beverages) 2021: Featuring the latest products, technologies and updates in the Food & Beverages industry with international participation from Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Netherlands and Australia.
