SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — The Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Sanctuary has been recognised for its value as a tourist destination by the Asean Placemaker Awards 2021.

The ceremony conferring the Special Honors Award: Government (Public Place) by Placemaker was conducted online on November 10.

The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) congratulated its special projects team for its efforts, which led to the sanctuary getting the award.

“May this recognition serve as the catalyst to efforts in turning public places in Kuala Selangor district towards the design and management of conducive, safe and comfortable public spaces,” it said on Facebook.

The Asean Placemaker Awards is organised by Nextdor Property Communications, which focuses on urban rejuvenation.

The initiative is aimed at commercialising the best areas, and recognising communities in South East Asia.

Alongside Kampung Kuantan, other locations which also received the award include Taman Komuniti Presint 16 under the Putrajaya Corporation, and Penyabong Waterfront along Majlis Daerah Mersing.
