Five Selangor local councils receive sustainable city award

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) emerged as the winner for the municipal council category at the Sustainable Town Appreciation 2021 ceremony, organised by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), yesterday.

According to the PLANMalaysia’s Facebook page, the Selayang Municipal Council was named as the third place winner for the same category while the Petaling Jaya City Council won third place for the city council category. 

Meanwhile, the Hulu Selangor District Council won second place in the district council category. All winners received cash money worth RM3,000 to RM8,000, as well as trophies and certificates.  

In the event, the Subang Jaya City Council won the Sustainable City Special Award 2021, following the consistent implementation of the Malaysian Urban Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets) programme.

The award entitles the local authority to receive RM6,000 in cash, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation.

MPKJ along with the Perbadanan Putrajaya and Pekan District Council in Pahang were also chosen as the recipients of the Sustainable Development Goals Best Achievement.

The appreciation ceremony was conducted virtually and officiated by the KPKT minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merica.
