Legalising unauthorised factories nets millions for Selangor govt

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The Selangor government’s initiative to legalise unauthorised factories has contributed approximately RM76 million in revenue for the state administration since the programme began end of last year, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said a total of 4,728 land lots and 5,755 factories were identified last year. Of the total lots, 367 have applied to change their land category and conditions.

The legalisation programme’s generated revenue was recorded from December 2020 to July this year, with the programme still ongoing.

“The enforcement exercises were carried out to ensure that town planning by the state government can be done as orderly as possible.

“It also ensures there are no leakages that could dampen our efforts to generate new revenue sources for the state government,” Amirudin said while tabling the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here today.

Amirudin said a special permit programme would be implemented for temporary agricultural land usage.

“The permit is for agricultural land that is being used for other purposes. Apart from that, a special residence permit would also be introduced for residential land being used for other purposes aside from a residence or business,” he added.

The state government has enforced the legalisation process of illegal factories since 2008, which requires factories and landowners to apply for valid licences to legalise their operations.

Strict action, including raids on the premises, would be enforced on owners who violated the land condition and factory operators operating on land that is not meant for industrial usage.
