SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged Selangor youths aged 18 and above to sign up for the Selangor Freelance initiative and generate income in the digital economic sector.

In cooperation with Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad and the Workana platform, he said the programme offers 5,000 training opportunities on working skills and job marketability.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, the gig economy had created job opportunities from the developing market in the digital segment.

“The initiative by the state government would benefit the people as well as offer the chance to generate income through a holistic empowerment programme,” he said on Twitter yesterday.

Those under Selangor Freelance would be trained to work as freelancers and how to use the Workana platform for two days.

The programme, launched on October 28, also offers RM400 to those who complete the training and digital freelance opportunity.

Any individuals — employed or otherwise — can submit their applications via http://selangor.workana.com

On January 20, Amirudin said Selangor Freelance would create over 1,000 job opportunities and help those hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that the initiative, with a total allocation of RM10 million, was set up immediately to cushion economic impact.

Selangor Freelance is listed under the state’s digitalisation programme in its 2021 Budget, with an expenditure of RM369 million through state funds and government-linked companies.
